Please note that the music in this video has been dubbed from Roger Zare's live recording of his original composition, "Far From Equilibrium", for better clarity.
Far From Equilibrium is an interdisciplinary exploration of how research works in science, dance and music. The first half of our summer 2016 show was our own creative investigation: a 20-minute modern dance accompanied by original music, which is shown in this video. Both the dance and the music explore turbulence, a chaotic twisting and stretching of fluid studied by fluid dynamics.
The second half of the show was an interactive research environment. Audiences explored the research environment and carried out their own curiosity-driven research about physics (especially fluid dynamics), dance, music and art.
